Hiking, cycling and skiing – right at the doorstep
Bever lies in the heart of the Upper Engadine, and the Chesa Tach is perfectly positioned: a hiking trail, a cycle route and a cross-country ski track all pass 100 metres from the door. The village centre – church, restaurants, supermarket, playground, bus stop and train station – is just 300 to 500 metres away.
Summer activities
Hiking
- Step straight onto the Upper Engadine’s 580 km hiking network from the Chesa Tach.
- The Val Bever, the side valley just behind the village, leads to alpine landscapes of streams, meadows and summit views.
- The Piz Mezdi rises right in front of the bedroom window – the starting point for day hikes and panoramic walks.
- Muottas Muragl: panoramic trails high above the lakes, with views across the whole Engadine lake basin.
Mountain biking
- More than 400 km of marked pleasure rides and single trails in the Upper Engadine.
- The Suvretta Loop is one of the finest mountain-bike routes in Switzerland – its start is a short walk away.
- Corviglia offers three flow trails for beginners and experienced riders alike.
Lakes & water
The Upper Engadine lakes – Silvaplana, St. Moritz and Malpensa – are about 20 minutes away. Sailing, kite-boarding, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding are a summer staple here. You can hire equipment on Lake Silvaplana.
Golf & culture
Two 18-hole golf courses in Samedan and Zuoz round off the sporting offer. Culture lovers will find museums and art galleries in the villages of the Engadine.
Winter activities
Cross-country skiing
- The cross-country track starts 150 m from the house – from it you can reach the marathon loop and the trail into the Val Bever.
- Over 220 km of groomed trails in the Upper Engadine and its side valleys. A particular favourite: the moderate trail into the Val Bever, leading into a snow-covered fairy-tale world.
Skiing & snowboarding
- 350 piste kilometres in the ski areas of Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza and the family-friendly Zuoz.
- St. Moritz and the Diavolezza are reachable in around 20 minutes.
Snowshoeing & winter hiking
150 km of winter hiking trails lead into the Val Roseg, Val Fex and Val Bever – snow-covered forests, silence and wide horizons. Perfect as a family outing or combined with the Muottas Muragl funicular.
Tobogganing & carriage rides
The 4.2 km toboggan run at Muottas Muragl and carriage rides into the Val Roseg or Val Fex are a classic family favourite. Right in Bever, the shorter Crasta Mora toboggan run is also worth it – a roughly 20-minute walk from the Chesa Tach. If you haven’t had enough, just ride it down again.
Around Bever
This dreamy Engadine village charms with its historic old centre, its restored church and its imposing bell tower. A large playground, restaurants and the renaturalised Inn river with its floodplain meadows invite you to linger. For a little treat, a detour to Spinas is well worth it: the Gasthaus Spinas has a bowling alley more than 100 years old, and in the Val Bever Roland Gruber mixes the «Hugo» – lemon balm & mint – to the original recipe.
